Maryland residents are reporting a "scary" experience with electronic voting machines that allegedly changed their votes for Kamala Harris to other candidates, according to a report.
Thedosia Munford, a voter in Prince George's County, told WUSA9 she was "scared" and "confused" when she saw that her ballot for Vice President Kamala Harris had switched to a different candidate, Jill Stein, at the Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex in Fort Washington.
"I double-checked before I moved to the next screen," Munford said, recounting how she managed to correct the ballot but was shaken by the incident.
Munford reported the issue and to her shock, was told by an election judge that another voter had encountered a similar problem.
Another resident, John Butler, shared a similar experience on Facebook, stating that his selection for Harris changed just as he was about to submit his ballot at a Suitland polling location.
Butler said.
Jared DeMarinis from the Maryland Board of Elections assured that all machines are "tested and safe," emphasizing the importance of reviewing ballots before submission.
"That's the point of touch screen. You have to review your ballot before it comes out. And you can review it again before you scan, DeMarinis told WUSA9. If there is a mistake you can ask for a spoiled ballot and redo it."
Munford still has her concerns. "How many people are doing that [checking]? That's the message that has to go out," she said. "You have to check your ballot before you submit it into the machine."
