Shooting at Maryland Mall

A frightening situation unfolded this morning at a mall in Columbia, Howard County, Maryland. The Howard County Police have confirmed that three people have been killed after an unidentified person opened fire, and one of those killed is believed to be the shooter. “Three people confirmed dead at Columbia Mall. Victims unknown at this time," the police department reported on its Twitter feed.

In another tweet, they revealed that a 911 call came around 11:15 a.m. saying that shots were fired at The Mall in Columbia. Responding officers found the bodies, including "one found near a gun and ammunition." The mall is currently on lockdown and police are asking people in the mall to stay where they are until officers confirm that the area is safe.

According to the Baltimore Sun, customers inside the mall are reporting that some have been directed toward the AMC Theater away from the scene of the shooting. Other customers reported hearing gunfire before fleeing the mall. Fire dispatchers have started planning and evacuation drill, for which they have requested buses.

People inside the mall took the scary incident to social media and have posted images reportedly from the scene showing mall employees and customers hiding in a stock room. Another Twitter image reportedly from the scene showed a bullet-riddled wall.
