For its second edition, Mexican Cinematographic Festival in France, “¡Viva México!” will feature a tribute for the late diva, María Félix who lived in the country for a long time. The year of 2014 marks 100 years since “La Doña” was born and Gabriel Figueroa Jr. and children of her French producers will attend the event consisting in three round tables, one of them dedicated exclusively to Felix’s career, and the other two focusing on “Mexican movies today” and “Popular idols in Mexico”. In a press conference, artistic consultant, Jean-Christophe Berjon and Lorenza Manrique, Director of Apoyo a la Producción del Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía, IMCINE, amongst others, explained the details of this encounter bound to strengthen cultural ties between Mexico and France.
Berjon stated that there will show 10 feature films, including Fernando Eimbcke’s “Club sándwich”, and Jorge Ramírez Suárez’s film, “Guten tag, Ramón,” as well as “González”, “Güeros”, “Las búsquedas”, “Las horas contigo”, “No se aceptan devoluciones,” “Elevador” and “Los años de fierro”. In addition, over 30 artists like Gustavo Sánchez Parra, Harold Torres, Ilse Salas, Carlos Bardem and possibly Eugenio Derbez, will be traveling to Paris to support their work and contributions to the festival.
The festival begins today, October 7 and will run through October 14, with special Mexico-France coproduction events on October 9 and 10.
