A man who killed his former landlord while dressed up as popular horror movie villain Michael Myers will reportedly not be charged for the killing on Tuesday, with sources saying the unnamed tenant was acting in self-defense.

Justin Valdivia, a 46-year-old landlord living in Portland, Oregon, was reportedly stabbed with a sword by a former tenant while Valdivia was wearing a Michael Myers mask from the popular film franchise “Halloween,” with the Multnomah County District saying that the confrontation and eventual killing was done in self-defense by the former tenant, according to the New York Post.

Valdivia reportedly had two houses, one of which he lived in, and the other which he was renting out to other tenants for about $750 per month. His relationships with the tenants had reportedly devolved weeks before the stabbing incident, with Valdivia threatening his tenants with a knife twice, and attempting to enter the house while drunk, Willamette Week reported.

The former tenant who was wearing a Myers mask was living in the house as a guest while many of the other tenants vacated the area due to safety issues related to Valdivia’s attitude. He reportedly had a “saberlike” sword in the couch for easy access, and had jury-rigged a shoebox to announce if Valdivia attempted to enter the home.

On Sept. 15, the former tenant was reportedly relaxing in a sofa when Valdivia entered the house, wearing the mask, armed with a hammer and what was originally reported as a handgun. In the struggle that ensued, Valdivia was stabbed by the tenant as the tenant took the gun away.

Later on, the gun was found to be a “pellet gun” painted to “resemble a real firearm.” The county district also noted in their report that what Valdivia appeared to be doing was attempting burglary while “wielding what appears to be two dangerous and deadly weapons.”

No cases have been filed on behalf of Valdivia, who reportedly had a wife that he lived with when he died.
