Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood is still suspended and on bail, due to allegations he raped and assaulted a young woman.
In January, Greenwood was arrested after photos and videos were posted on social media leading to him being arrested for alleged rape and assault. He was also questioned on suspicion of making threats to kill. The woman victim first made allegations against the forward with photographs and audio allegedly detailing her claims of abuse.
Following his arrest, Greenwood was suspended from playing and training with Man Utd; his last game was during a 1-0 win over West Ham on Jan. 22. Greenwood's bail was initially set to expire in April, however, he had that extended by police until mid-June.
Rumors emerged claiming that Greenwood would face no action and was set to be reinstated by Man Utd. Also, there were rumors that Greenwood could possibly join United on its upcoming pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, under newly-appointed boss Erik ten Hag.
In April, United were forced to deny news that the 20-year-old footballer was about to return to training, with his player profile still included on their website. A statement from United read, "There has been no change whatsoever in Mason's status," the club said. "We removed his profile from the club app soon after he was removed from the squad in January. This was in order to remove Mason from interactive elements of the app, such as team predictions etc."
"However, his profile was never removed from the website as he remains a Manchester United player, albeit not currently part of the squad while the legal process unfolds."
Nike has also suspended its sponsorship deal with Greenwood. The player has been removed from the FIFA 22 video game and official partner Cadbury will reportedly not feature him on its marketing products.
Greenwood is from Bradford. He made his debut in 2019 and has since finished up with 129 appearances for the club. He has been an impressive player for United since his rise to becoming a first-team regular in 2019. He signed a four-year deal with the club in 2021. Greenwood scored 23 goals in the Premier League.
