A man strangled his estranged wife and two minor daughters to death. The man then burned their bodies with the help of his mother.
The shocking incident happened Thursday morning in the Katihar district of Bihar, India.
The police have not yet released the identities of the two minor victims.
According to the police, the man, identified as Mohammed Tahir, strangled his 32-year-old estranged wife, Hina Khatun, and his two daughters -- one seven-year-old and another five -- to death, then burned their bodies using kerosene. The man’s mother who has not been identified and few others helped him commit the gruesome crime, police said.
"Tahir and his wife married 11 years ago and since then were not on good terms. Earlier, panchayat meetings were held to resolve the issues between the couple. On Thursday, the accused in a fit of rage killed his wife and two minor daughters," a police official said, The Times of India reported.
The investigators were reluctant to provide any further information into the incident as this is an ongoing investigation.
The incident has triggered massive outrage among the villagers. Police intervened in the furor and are trying to pacify the locals.
Tahir and his mother were arrested on the same day. The charges imposed on them are unclear at the moment.
"Tahir and his mother have been arrested in this connection and sent to jail," Katihar SDPO Amarkant Jha said.
The charred bodies were sent to the Sadar Hospital for an autopsy, the police officer said.
"The bodies were sent for an autopsy. Besides estranged ties between the couple, we are probing the case from all angles also," Jha said.
In a similar incident, a daughter burned her father to death after she got him drunk. The incident happened Sunday night in Kolkata, India. 22-year-old Piyali Auddy, took her 56-year-old father, Biswanath, for dinner at a restaurant.
Auddy then lured Biswanath with a plan to drink on the banks of Hooghly river. After Biswanath got drunk and passed out on a bench near the river, Auddy poured kerosene on him and set him on fire. The incident was caught on CCTV.
She was arrested a short time later. During the interrogation, Auddy told police that she committed the crime to put an end to the physical assault and mental torture that her father was inflicting on her.
