A man has been reported dead after allegedly being stabbed by a teen following an argument over a plate of momos in Tiranga Chowk, Delhi, India on Saturday, Sept. 3.
The teen suspect, identified as Nakul Kumar, was reportedly eating momos at a shop located in a crowded market in the Tiranga Chowk area of Mohan Garden on Saturday, Sept. 3.
While Kumar was enjoying his meal, the victim, identified as 40-year-old Jitender Mehto, walked past him. However, Mehto reportedly accidentally shoved the teenager's hand and his plate of momos fell to the floor, the Times Of India reported.
Enraged, the teenager, who allegedly appeared drunk and was carrying a bottle of beer in his hand, started verbally harassing Mehto. This led to a heated argument between the two that subsequently turned into a scuffle. As their fight escalated, the accused teen allegedly took out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Mehto in the neck. As Mehto started bleeding profusely, the teen fled the spot.
Onlookers rushed to help Mehto and transported him to a nearby hospital. However, he was declared dead upon arrival by doctors at the facility. Following this, a police team along with forensic experts reached the crime scene after being informed about the murder. When the officers returned to the police station, they found that Kumar had already surrendered himself, Hindustan Times reported.
Kumar’s family members reportedly found him near a petrol station in Ranhola and noticed blood on his clothes and a blood-stained knife in his hand. When Kumar told them that he had stabbed a man, Kumar’s brother informed local law enforcement and took him to the Ranhola Police Station where he surrendered before the officers.
Following the incident, a case under Section 302 (murder) was registered against the accused. According to the authorities, Kumar is a school dropout and has no previous criminal record.
Meanwhile, Mehto's family members have alleged that the accused and his mother have threatened them with dire consequences if they “pursued the murder case.”
“The family has not told us anything about the threats. We will surely look into it and take action as per law,” a senior police officer, who asked not to be named, said about the family’s allegations.
