It was a scary morning in NYC after an unidentified man began to cut his own wrists outside the "Today" show in Rockefeller Plaza. The individual, believed to be an Asian male in his 50s was not in sight of the cameras recording the show, but caused a lot of panic among the people gathered to experience watching the iconic show live.

The show's staff and NYPD acted quickly, drawing their guns and rushing to intervene before the man caused more damage to him or people around, although he did specify that he didn't want to hurt anyone else.

Some reports claim the man was ranting about the IRS, and he "used broken English" to say that the Internal Revenue Service was corrupt and "ruined his life." He was shouting about peppermint tea and trying to get bystanders to read a pile of papers that allegedly were IRS documents of some sort, until he tossed them into the air at about 7:50 a.m., pulled out a pocket knife and yelled "I'm going to cut myself!" twice before actually engaging in the act.

The "Today" show team was about to broadcast outside and had to move into the studio after the man attempted against his own life. Matt Lauer and co-host Savannah Guthrie witnessed the acts and later informed their viewers why they had moved indoors, explaining that a man was tackled by the show's security after he begun to cut himself with a knife. The audience was evacuated from Rockefeller Plaza.

"Opening the 8 o'clock half hour inside the studio today because there was an incident out on the plaza," host Matt Lauer explained after the commercial break. "A short time ago, a man out there attempted to harm himself with a knife. He did manage to cut himself. He was controlled by our security team out there. However, he did harm himself in some way. And so he's now being attended to by medical personnel."

The host then added that the man "did say something about not wanting to harm others." The man was rushed into St. Luke's Hospital and medical staff are positive that he's going to survive.

Lauer later took it to Twitter and gave the all clear after the incident, thanking again the show's security and the NYPD.
