A man was arrested in Thailand after his wife’s body was found in a pond with multiple slash wounds to her throat.
The heinous crime was reported Tuesday in the Kamalasai district of Kalasin, Thailand.
The man, identified as Montri Chotthong, had told his relatives that he had slain his wife and dumped her body in the pond.
The relatives did not believe him initially. However, they decided to check for themselves after they failed to locate the woman in the village.
On Tuesday night, when the relatives searched the public pond, they were shocked to find the woman’s dead body floating. The body was partially covered in a fertilizer sack that was tied with an electric wire.
The relatives informed the police. Officers immediately responded to the scene, Watcharin Mirae, duty officer at Kamalasai police station said, Bangkok Post reported.
The victim was identified as 29-year-old New Kamalasai. The victim suffered 13 knife wounds to the throat and also had other head wounds, the outlet reported.
During the investigation, officers learned that the victim and her husband had engaged in an altercation Monday night.
Montri's aunt, 43-year-old Bang-orn Chanthanong, told police that she heard the couple arguing. The suspect was a drug addict and the altercation between the couple was a common occurrence, but she never imagined that he might kill her, she added.
Another relative, 48-year-old Toon Summat, said that Montri came to her house and told her he had murdered his wife and that her body can be found floating in the public pond behind the village. She was one among the relatives who set out to look for the victim and finally found her dead in the pond.
The police initiated a lookout for Montri and located him at his home a short while later. During a search inside the house, investigators found traces of dried blood on the floor and also recovered a blood-covered machete from their bedroom.
The crime scene was sealed and Montri was taken into custody. He was interrogated, during which he confessed to killing his wife and dumping the body.
The motive behind the killing and the charges imposed on Montri is unclear at this time.
