Man targeting his girlfriend’s vehicle parked outside a grocery store shoots her toddler nephew in the leg. The police have initiated a manhunt for the suspect.
Officers from the Little Elm Police Department on Thursday, April 15, responded to the Watts Grocery Store in Denton County, Hackberry, Texas, after receiving reports of shots being fired.
According to the police, a woman, her toddler child, and her sister were at the store Thursday afternoon, when the sister’s boyfriend drove up to the parking lot and fired multiple shots at the family’s vehicle. The toddler girl who was inside the car was struck in the leg.
The suspect then immediately fled the scene.
Shoppers at the store who witnessed the incident jumped into action to help the injured girl.
The child was rushed to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The girl was later reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Demetrius Davis, police said. The victim’s family has not yet been identified by the police.
Davis’s girlfriend told police that she had an argument with the suspect earlier that day. The couple lives together in Richardson, police said.
However, police have not revealed any other motive behind the shooting.
Davis was reported to be last seen in Irwing, police said.
Little Elm police and other law-enforcement agencies have initiated a lookout for the suspect.
Police have urged anyone with information on Davis' location to call 911 or North Texas Crime Stoppers at 877-373-TIPS (8477).
In a similar incident, a man fatally beat, squeezed, and bit his girlfriend's toddler son after the child urinated on the couch. The shocking incident was reported on April 8 in Lakeland, Florida.
The suspect, 30-year-old Alegray Damiah Jones, told police that he "popped" the child on his hand and leg after the child urinated on the couch.
He then threw the child onto an air mattress where he vomited. This further agitated the man who violently picked the child off of the bed. With his arms around the toddler's stomach, Jones squeezed him against his body. He then took the child to the bathroom where he vomited again. Jones finally left the child on the mattress where he found him alone unresponsive after a while. In an effort to wake him up, the man bit the toddler on his arm.
Jones was arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child.
