A man has been accused of brutally bludgeoning his younger brother to death with an iron pipe for not focusing on his studies in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India on Monday, Sept. 19.
The accused, Biswamohan Senapati, 25, and his younger brother, Rajmohan Senapati, 21, had come to Bhubaneswar, Odisha to pursue their higher studies and initially used to stay together.
Biswamohan, an MBA graduate, was reportedly preparing for competitive exams, and his younger brother Rajmohan was pursuing a bachelor's degree in Education. However, six months ago, Rajmohan moved out and took up accommodations with two of his friends, the Times Of India reported.
After moving out, Rajmohan allegedly started stealing money by using his father's ATM card and reportedly also often visited his hometown in Nayagarh to ask money from his father. Their father, a school teacher by profession, recently told Biswamohan about Rajmohan's habit of requesting for money.
Biswamohan reportedly felt upset thinking that Rajmohan was wasting the family’s hard-earned funds and ruining his career by flunking classes, partying, and spending too much time with friends. Following this, Biswamohan advised his younger brother to stay away from his friends and concentrate on his studies, Hindustan Times reported.
However, Rajmohan reportedly ignored his brother's advice and continued to demand money from his father. Upset with his brother's attitude, Biswamohan called Rajmohan to his home on Monday night, Sept. 19. After the apartment, Biswamohan scolded his brother Rajmohan for not paying attention to his studies and wasting the family's money with his extravagant lifestyle.
Following this, a scuffle broke out between the brothers. As their argument escalated, Biswamohan, in a fit of rage, allegedly picked up an iron rod and started brutally beating Rajmohan with it, leaving him seriously injured.
After beating him up, Biswamohan later called Rajmohan's roommates and asked them to take his brother home. After Rajmohan was taken back to his flat, he started vomiting and his friends had to rush him to Capital Hospital for treatment. However, Rajmohan later died at the health facility due to internal bleeding.
Following the victim's death, the local authorities were alerted. The police later retrieved Rajmohan's for a postmortem examination.
On Tuesday, Sept. 20, Nayapalli police arrested Biswamohan on charges of killing Rajmohan under section 302 (murder) of IPC (Indian Penal Code).
