A man has been accused of killing his wife with a broken floor tile in front of their nine-year-old daughter at their home in the Wakad area of Pune, Maharashtra, India on Monday, Aug. 1.
Local law enforcement received a call at around 3 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, alerting them that the accused, 35-year-old Ramesh Hanumant Pujari, had brutally attacked his wife Lalita Pujari, 30, at their home and had fled the scene. When the officers responded to the scene, they found the victim Lalita lying unresponsive in a pool of blood inside the residence, the Indian Express reported.
A preliminary investigation conducted revealed that Ramesh had suspected his wife Lalita of having several extramarital affairs. This led to regular arguments between the couple. In the early hours of Monday, the couple once again erupted into a similar confrontation. Awakened by their shouting match, the couple's nine-year-old daughter walked into the main room where her parents were arguing.
The verbal argument soon turned into a physical confrontation and the accused started brutally thrashing his wife. During the fight, in a fit of rage, he picked up a broken floor tile and began bludgeoning her to death in front of their nine-year-old daughter. The victim suffered grievous injuries in the attack and died at the scene. After killing the victim, the accused immediately fled the residence, Hindustan Times reported.
The couple reportedly has three children: a five-year-old son, a nine-year-old daughter, and an 11-year-old daughter. Two of their children, the five-year-old son, and the nine-year-old daughter, were home at the time of the murder. Meanwhile, the couple’s eldest child, the 11-year-old oldest daughter was away at a relative’s place.
Following the incident, the police registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the Wakad Police Station, launched an investigation, and subsequently tracked down the suspect.
