A man has been accused of brutally killing his wife by dragging her while half-asleep and pushing her in front of an oncoming train in Vasai, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India on Monday, Aug. 22.

The unnamed suspect, a man in his thirties, reportedly erupted into a heated argument with his wife at Vasai Road railway station in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India on Monday before the heinous murder.

After their argument, the couple reportedly slept next to their two children on Platform No. 5 of the railway station. It remains unclear if the family were homeless or if they were at the station early for a commute. At around 4.10 a.m., the husband allegedly justled his wife from her sleep and began dragging her to the edge of the railway platform. He reportedly proceeded to push her onto the tracks in front of an oncoming Awadh Express train, India Today reported.

The victim was badly mutilated in the collision and died at the scene. CCTV surveillance footage of the horrifying incident has gone viral on social media in India.

In the viral footage, the accused can be seen picking up his two children and fleeing the platform after the incident. The man was later spotted boarding a train to Dadar. After getting disembarking at Dadar, the accused reportedly boarded another train to Kalyan, NDTV reported.

A case has been registered against the accused under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by the railway police. A manhunt has been launched for the suspect's arrest.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for pushing a woman in front of an oncoming subway train at Union Square, New York two years ago, Latin Times reported.

The accused, 26-year-old Aditya Vemulapati, reportedly waited for a train to enter the Union Square subway station on Nov. 19, 2020, before mounting the fatal attack. As he saw the train enter the station, he then ran up behind the 40-year-old victim, Liliana Sagbaicela, a woman he did not know, and randomly pushed her in front of the oncoming train to kill her.

The victim landed between the tracks and miraculously survived the incident. Even though several train cars passed over her, she survived the incident with minor injuries and no broken bones. However, she needed eight stitches on her head after the attack.

Vemulapati was sentenced on Thursday, Aug. 4, to eight years in jail followed by five years of supervised release.
