Man Kills Wife After Argument Over Children's School Fee, Burns Her Corpse With Hot Iron

A man reportedly killed his wife after an argument over their children's school fees and burned her corpse with a hot iron. The horrifying incident happened in the couple's house located in Orimerunmu, Mowe, in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria.

The victim, identified as 40-year-old woman Folasade Badejo, a fashion designer by profession, got into a heated argument with her husband, 51-year-old Oluranti Badejo, over the payment of their three children’s school fees. As the argument escalated, Oluranti allegedly smashed Folasade’s head against the wall of their apartment, Punch Newspapers reported.

Following this, the victim, who suffered grievous injuries, fell onto the floor. According to their eight-year-old daughter, Jumoke, Oluranti abandoned her mother on the floor as she screamed in pain and succumbed to her injuries.

After the victim died, the suspect allegedly burnt her corpse with a hot iron to make it look as if she was electrocuted. However, their eight-year-old daughter witnessed the whole incident.

Folasade’s younger brother, Lekan Yusuf, revealed that he rushed to the scene after he received a call from one of the couple’s neighbors. When he reached the scene, he saw his sister’s body burnt with electric iron and blood still oozing out of her nostrils and ears, Vanguard reported.

Yusuf revealed that he had seen several instances of Oluranti beating his sister when he was living with them.

The suspect was arrested following a report that the victim's younger sister lodged at Mowe divisional headquarters and was taken to the Mowe Police Station. He is said to have been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department.

The victim's body was taken to a mortuary in Sagamu to conduct an autopsy.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect strangled the deceased during a scuffle as a result of the minor disagreement," officers said.

According to the couple’s daughter, Jumoke, her mother demanded school fees from her father on the day of the incident. However, this led to a heated argument between the two and, the accused slammed her head against the wall.
