A man allegedly hijacked a bus full of passengers to transport himself to Argentina's World Cup game since he was running late.
The passenger allegedly decided to throw himself behind the wheel of the bus when he realized the countdown for the start of the match of the Argentine National Team against Croatia had begun on Tuesday, Dec. 13. The hijacking occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 13 in the heart of the Buenos Aires town of Ciudad Santa María, in San Miguel, League Of Justice reported.
The bus on line 440 left Fraga and Avenida Ricardo Balbín and had reportedly just started its journey. The bus reportedly was stopped at a traffic light and the driver said he was going to buy something at a kiosk. Taking advantage of the situation, the now arrested man allegedly took control of the wheel, took off with a bus-load full of passengers, and attempted to race home to watch the football match.
The hijacker sped down the streets for around four miles. After speeding down the road, he eventually abandoned the vehicle not too far from his residence.
Seeing the hijacker speed away with his bus, the surprised driver filed a complaint. Following the complaint, a quick police operation helped intercept the rushing fan near the intersection of Callao and Maestro Ferreyra streets. The officers arrested him and he is facing a charge of Auto theft, TAG24 News reported.
The official cause of arrest was listed as “apprehension for automotive theft.”
Even though the fan failed to make it to the game, he may be relieved to know that the Argentine National Team clinched a spot in the World Cup final after beating Croatia 3-0.
Argentina advanced to the final, and got revenge for their defeat against Croatia with an identical scoreline in World Cup 2018, in a group stage match.
Three spectacular goals, one by Messi, and two by Julian Alvarez helped Argentina defeat Croatia and advance to the finals. After the win, Argentina celebrated in front of close to 90,000 fans at Lusail Stadium in Doha.
