A 35-year-old man, recently released on bail after being accused of abetting his wife’s suicide, allegedly killed himself along with their 11-year-old daughter.
Vikas Kedare and his daughter, Arya were found hanging dead from the ceiling of their home in the Asangaon area of Maharashtra's Thane district, India, on Tuesday, March 15, authorities said.
Hours before the tragedy, Kedare posted a two-page suicide note on his Facebook, blaming police sub-inspector R S Shirsagar from Shahapur police station for the extreme step.
Kedare claimed he was innocent and had no clue why his wife ended her life and also why her family blamed him for her death.
He wrote the trauma he faced for seven months was more than what he could bear and so has decided to end his life with his daughter, reports said.
Relatives and neighbors who saw the post rushed to the family’s home only to find the father and daughter hanging dead inside.
The police were alerted and the bodies were sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, pending further investigation.
Investigators believe Kedare hanged his daughter before killing himself.
The victim’s family, however, refused to accept the bodies saying they will not perform their last rites until the accused officer is punished.
"Police officer Shirsagar continued harassing my son for money in some excuse or the other before his arrest and after he came home on bail. I want action against him," Vikas' mother, who did not wish to be identified, told the Times of India.
According to the police, Kedare's wife died by suicide after consuming poison on Aug. 15, last year.
Kedare and his mother were arrested and charged with abetting his wife’s suicide. He spent four months in prison before being released on bail last week.
"After Vikas' arrest, Shirsagar illegally kept two of his laptops and did not show them on record. When Vikas asked for them as they belonged to his company, Shirsagar started demanding money," said the victim’s family friend, Shivaji Ragade.
"Vikas has mentioned his trauma at the hands of Shirsagar and we want strict action against him or he will harass others in future," he said.
This is an ongoing investigation and no further details were released at the time of this writing.
