A man from Nigeria identified as Ahmed Saka could not accept the fact that his wife was leaving him and this turned into something forgettable. After being told by his wife, Mutiat Oladele, that she was no longer interested in continuing their union and leaving him, Ahmed did not handle it well and ended up burning his family and himself alive in the Shogoyo area in Oyo State.
Ahmed set their home ablaze on Apr. 7, killing Mutiat and their two children. Saka would eventually set himself on fire after that, an unfortunate end for the family of four. Several others were injured with severe burns. The casualties were ten-year-old Ramon seven-year-old Sarumi and Abiodun Oladede.
Those who ended up with burn injuries include Bisola Oladele, Lateef Sarumi, Aishat Sarumi, and Wosilat Sarumi. The incident was reported to authorities by a neighbor named Olaide Aliu at around 5:10 a.m. According to reports, Saka had set the room of Mutiat ablaze at around 1:50 a.m.
When police responded to the report, the corpses were evacuated and brought to the mortuary of State Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan, for autopsy. Those who survived but ended up with burn injuries were brought to the Anglican Diocese Hospital, Molete for proper treatment. CSP Olugbenga Fadeyi stated that an investigation is underway on the matter.
It could not be verified as to why Mutiat wanted to end the relationship. There was no mention of a third party or anything about a falling out between the late couple. Authorities are likely to ask people close to the family about the relationship to determine the falling out as well as some other details that are tied to the case.
In related news, a pregnant woman reportedly stabbed her husband to death in Delta. It appears that this stemmed from an argument with the woman not too happy about her husband coming home late despite several warnings.
