A man carrying a firearm device hidden in his underwear and a loaded gun in his car was arrested outside the Pentagon last week after a traffic stop escalated into a chaotic confrontation with police, according to court documents.
Kaleel Nagbe, the suspect, was initially pulled over for using his cell phone while driving at the Pentagon complex, CBS reported. Pentagon police reported smelling marijuana and ordered Nagbe out of his car, but he attempted to flee, prompting "multiple officers" hanging on to his vehicle to prevent his escape.
Nagbe, who has a prior firearms conviction, was found with a loaded gun concealed in his underwear. The gun was equipped with 16 rounds and a Glock switch, which can convert a semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic firearm. Inside the vehicle's trunk, officers report finding 14 pounds of marijuana concealed in two trash bags and a backpack.
During the arrest, Nagbe allegedly injured a police officer in a physical struggle. The officer was treated for a hand injury at a nearby hospital.
Although court documents do not suggest Nagbe intended to use the firearm at the Pentagon, prosecutors have raised concerns about his criminal history and the presence of the illegal firearm modification device.
Initially released on a personal recognizance bond, Nagbe is now being held in custody pending trial. He is scheduled to appear in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, on Wednesday.
