It’s no secret that we can’t wait until “La Gata” premieres on Univision this May 5. This new telenovela stars Maite Perroni as Esmeralda, the lead character, Daniel Arenas as her love interest, Erika Buenfil as Perroni’s mother and Laura Zapata as the villain. The story focuses on a young woman that lives in a garbage dump and is mistreated by her stepmother, not knowing that she comes from a wealthy family.
Perroni had to transform herself into a character that lives in a landfill, with torn shoes, raggedy clothes and dirt all over.To make the story even more real, Maite has been shooting in a real dump, the Bordo de Xochiaca in the Nezahualcóyotl municipality. She’s been filming there for approximately two months and she claims that it’s key to make the story feel authentic. “We don’t have a set, nothing is fake. Everything is 100% real and authentic,” Perroni said, according to Terra Mexico.
Although production takes the necessary means to keep the cast and crew safe in the toxic environment, Maite revealed she hasn’t had any preventative vaccinations. “I haven’t gotten any vaccinations for this. We take precautions for any place or circumstances in which we work, and in the end, we have to be careful regardless because we work with our body and physique,” the actress said.
She added that what really bothers her about shooting on location is actually the commute to the municipality where the landfill is. “It takes us an hour and a half to go there each day. So I have to be mentally prepared that I will spend three hours of my working day sitting in a car.”
We really hope Maite is being safe and that she remains healthy throughout the rest of the filming.
