Maite Perroni is the star of "La Gata" and has done an incredible job of capturing the magic of a poor humble girl with big dreams. The telenovela airs its last episode in México tonight and we are already missing it. As you know, the story follows Esmeralda, whom everybody calls “La Gata”, as she grows up in a suburban slum under miserable conditions; ever since she was a little girl she had lived with Doña Rita, who exploits her by sending her out on the streets to beg or sell candies in order to “earn her food and bed”. As a child, she became friends with Pablo (Daniel Arenas), a wealthy child who cares for her and tries to help her behind his mother´s back, Lorenza (Laura Zapata), who looks down on “La Gata” due to her social prejudices which make her reject poor, uneducated people.
"La Gata" also included amongst the cast Manuel Ojeda, Jorge Poza, Leticia Perdigón, Pilar Pellicer, Socorro Bonilla, Mariluz Bermúdez, Mónika Sánchez, Patricio Castillo, Paloma Ruiz De Alda and Erika Buenfil. The classic storyline made everyone dream that true love still exists and gave hope that one day that will be able to materialize. "La Gata" had incredible sets and an actual slum was used to film many of the initial scenes to capture the realism of people that live there in real life. It has extremely hard for the actors but it was necessary to give the viewers a slice of life and familiarize themselves with the real conditions that these people live in. Perroni showed that she is capable of taking any type of role and has shown her versatility throughout the years since starring in "Rebelde." As "La Gata" meows on last time, these are the 5 reasons to watch the series finale:
1. Maite Perroni: She is a true star! She acts, she sings, she dances, she is a great role model. The main reason to watch "La Gata" was because of her and fans are going to surely gather around the television tonight to watch her meow on last time.
2. Esmeralda & Pablo: The chemistry between Perroni and Arenas was undeniable, they made such a cute and tender couple. At the beginning of production rumors swirled that there was an actual romance between the two, which they both have debunked. We know they will live happily ever after and we can't wait to see that.
3. Laura Zapata: The villain of villains is Laura Zapata. Although she started rather soft, she really became her own towards the end. We love her over dramatic acting and she screams like no other evil antagonist.
4. Erika Buenfil: Buenfil took a step back for "La Gata" after starring in "Amores Verdaderos," but her talent is immense. She showed that she wasn't afraid to play a different character, by dying her hair and throwing a little bit of dirt on her face. She even scored her son Nicolás a role in the telenovela. Buenfil's character was endearing and she deserves a happy ending.
5. Alternate Finale: Production filmed an alternate finale that will be made available once the finale airs on tv. To compare and contrast we will have to watch both to see what the differences were. Are you excited?
