Prominent MAGA supporter and former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, criticized Democratic lawmakers following the congressional hearing on sanctuary cities on Wednesday.

"I don't like to be partisan because I truly believe the problems America is facing are beyond right or left," Lake wrote in a post on X. "But I thought some of the Democrats embarrassed themselves with their behavior tonight. The people watching at home know that the President is working for them. I hope the Democrats start to work with him for the sake of this country."

Lake, who was prone to making incendiary comments against political rivals during electoral campaigns, accompanied her comments with a clip from an interview she gave to Newsmax following the contentious hearing led by Republican Rep. James Comer, who called on Congress to end federal funding for sanctuary cities, arguing that such policies compromise public safety.

Democratic mayors from New York, Boston, Chicago, and Denver pushed back against Republican claims that sanctuary city policies endanger communities including Comer himself who said that sanctuary cities "make us all less safe and are a public safety nightmare."

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson rejected Comer's assertions, stating that sanctuary city mayors "do not harbor criminals, we arrest them." Boston Mayor Michelle Wu also challenged Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, who previously vowed to "bring hell" to cities that resist federal immigration enforcement. "Bring him here under oath and let's ask him some questions," Wu said.

Lake, who has remained a vocal supporter of former President Trump, was sworn in as a special advisor to the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which oversees Voice of America (VOA) on Monday. As a special advisor, her role is to "oversee and advise agency leadership on Administration priorities as well as implement the policies and strategies needed to streamline the agency, its networks, and its grantees," according to a USAGM spokesperson.

Her appointment comes after unsuccessful bids for Arizona governor and U.S. senator. Despite her loyalty to Trump, Lake has notably opposed Elon Musk's suggestion to dismantle VOA. Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, she argued that the agency should not be "Trump TV" but rather a tool to "spread the values of freedom all over the world and prevent trillion-dollar wars."
