Mac users all over the world who were looking forward to the macOS Sierra release date have something to rejoice about, the wait is finally over. Apple today released its macOS Sierra update to the public, available as a free download to all Mac users worldwide. As MacRumors reports, Apple put macOS Sierra through extensive beta testing before its official launch. Eight beta variants as and a few versions of the golden master macOS Sierra were seeded to ensure optimal performance and stability before the OS was ready to go live.

The public can now experience a system refresh and all the new features that macOS Sierra has to offer. macOS Sierra 10.12 follows OS X El Capitan 10.11 and OS X Yosemite 10.10 and is designed to be compatible with the late 2009 release of the iMac and MacBook and later. It will also be compatable with the late 2010 release of the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro, Mac mini and Mac Pro computers released in mid 2010 and beyond.

So what fresh features can Mac users expect to see in the macOS Sierra update? For starters, the new Mac operating system features a name overhaul that coincides with the that of existing Apple firmwares, iOS, tvOS and watchOS. Mac users running the macOS Sierra update will enjoy an enhanced user experience with better integration across iPhone, Apple TV and Apple Watch.

iPhone users’ favorite virtual assistant Siri comes to Mac computers with the release of macOS Sierra. The debut of Siri allow Mac users to multitask, look for documents, pull up information and more with the convenience of hands free voice search. With Siri for Mac, you can stay organized and in the know at all time. Mac users can pin sports schedules to catch every game, Twitter feeds to know what everyone is buzzing about and more in the Notification Centre. What’s more, macOS Sierra also promises better iCloud integration so that users can access files on all of their iDevices via the cross-platform iCloud Drive. As Cult of Mac points out, with the macOS Sierra update, dragging and dropping into a specified folder is no longer required.

Apple’s next-generation operating system is easy to install. Mac owners can either grab it directly from the Mac App Store or check for macOS Sierra through their computer’s Software Update function.
