Lupita Nyong'o is the latest artist to criticize the lack of diversity being represented at the 2016 Oscars. The actress join forces with other celebs like George Clooney, David Oyelowo, Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith to speak up after voters failed to nominate any African-Americans for the major awards last week. "I am disappointed by the lack of inclusion in this year’s Academy Awards nominations,” Lupita wrote. “It has me thinking about unconscious prejudice and what merits prestige in our culture.”
“The Awards should not dictate the terms of art in our modern society, but rather be a diverse reflection of the best of what our art has has to offer today,” she continued. “I stand with my peers who are calling for change in expanding the stories that are told and recognition of the people who tell them." The former Oscar winner also included a powerful quote from James Baldwin,“not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
