There have been talks about a TV series about the life of the late Jenni Rivera, “La Diva de la Banda.” Rivera died in a tragic plane crash on December 9, 2012, but her legacy lives on, as she’s the most important female figure and top selling female artist in the Mexican music genre, even after her death. Ever since it was announced that making a series about Rivera’s life was a possibility, there has been a lot of speculation on who will play the leading role.
One thing is certain, Jenni Rivera’s daughter, Chiquis, is a favorite. Chiquis is a copy of her mother: same body type, same mannerisms, their faces definitely look alike, and even though the two had a bit of a falling out during a period of time, no one knows Jenni more like her own daughter, which would give the character a different type of depth, should Chiquis play her.
The Riveras agree, being Chiquis uncle, Juan Rivera, the one who suggested she play her mother, as she would be the “ideal leading lady.” Chiquis other uncle, Lupillo, also agrees that her niece could do a good job, but advices her to sign up for acting lessons. During an interview with “Ventaneando,” Lupillo said, “I think Chiquis can do great. She does have to take acting lessons though. We’re not actors. Being an actor requires some studying and preparation. If she takes her time and breaks down the script with a good coach who will ‘pull her ears,’ then I think she can do great!”
He hopes producers do a good job with the series. “I wish whatever they do, they do it with a lot of respect and the love she deserves.” Lupillo added that he doesn’t think he would play himself, but he could act as a bartender or a janitor.
Meanwhile, Chiquis is happy her family is pushing for her. “I would love to!” she said. “It would be an honor for me to play my mom. I would do it with a lot of love, a lot of passion and respect towards her and her legacy. Let’s see what happens!”
