After a brief period of uncertainty, Lt. Gov. of Massachusetts Timothy Murray has submitted his letter of resignation.

Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce voted Wednesday to appoint Murray as its CEO, according to CNN. His new position pays more than $200,000. He currently makes just shy of $125,000.

While Murray received praise for his efforts involving veterans' issues, substance abuse, domestic violence and economic development, he also leaves behind unsolved mysteries.

These include his unexplained crash in 2011 where he was allegedly asleep behind the wheel of his state-issued car travelling straight ahead at 100 mph, according to CBS Local.

A much more troubling issue, however, is his ties to the Chelsea Housing Authority and Michael McLaughlin, who will be sentenced next month for concealing his $360,000 salary from regulators for a number of years.

Murray, a good friend of Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, was briefly viewed as a favorite to take the top position in the state, but announced in January that he would not be running. He told reporters that his decision was personal and not at all a reflection of his connection to McLaughlin, WBUR reported.

"This is a family decision, a personal decision, about how I want to spend the next two years, to six years," Murray said.

Upon his resignation, Patrick issued a statement commending Murray's work with the state.

"I want to add my congratulations and thanks to Tim for the extraordinary role he has played," he said. "Tim Murray is a trusted partner and just a great friend. He was here everyday for the right reasons."

Murray has been known as an advocate for business, prompting the chamber of commerce to approach him about the potential career move.

He is expected to step down in a week and a half.
