Enrique Capitaine, one of the young men accused of raping Daphne Fernández last year, was arrested in Coahuila, Mexico, sources confirmed on Thursday.
According to Milenio.com, Capitaine was spotted at a Starbucks located in San Isidro, Torreón on Wednesday evening and was immediately taken into custody.
Last month, the PGR (Procuraduría General de la República) released a statement announcing that they were working with the Interpol, and a red notice was issued in order to catch the aggressors overseas. Jorge Cotaita and Diego Cruz Alonso are still M.I.A.
During an interview with Radio Fórmula’s Ciro Gómez Leyva, Enrique’s father, Felipe Capitaine, declared he is doing everything in his power to prove his son’s innocence and is asking for a re-examination of the happenings.
“The District Attorney’s Office is taking action because someone [Daphne] is accusing him, but they don’t have any sort of proof. There is nothing that can prove that the crime was actually committed,” Capitaine told the press.
Back in March, Daphne’s dad, Javier Fernández, released a video in which the four young men are allegedly apologizing for raping his teenage daughter. In a conversation with Jorge Ramos on Univision’s “Al Punto,” the frustrated parent emphasized that all he wants is justice to prevail.
“Every time they ask me, ‘what would you say to them [state authorities]?’ Just to take a look at the file and execute the law as it is marked. They committed a crime, and they have to pay for it,” he told Ramos.
Recent reports disclosed that Enrique Capitaine has already been translated to Playa Linda’s prison in the state of Veracruz, where he is expected to deliver his side of the story before the authorities.
The victim, Daphne Fernández, decided to break silence earlier this month for the first time since the scandal went public and kindly asked her social media followers to please stop making a “telenovela” out of this tragic story.
Stay tuned for more updates on the case.
