Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville is predicting that the Trump administration will experience a significant collapse within 30 days, citing a sharp decline in public approval and internal tensions.
"I believe that this administration, in less than 30 days, is in the midst of a massive collapse, and particularly a collapse in public opinion," Carville told Mediaite's Dan Abrams. "It's collapsing right now. We're in the midst of a collapse," he added. "This is the lowest approval, not even close, that any president has ever had at a comparable time." "It's over," Carville added.
Recent polling data by The Economist/YouGov shows that support for the Trump administration among voters under the age of 30 has declined from 50% to 39% in two weeks. Additionally, broader public approval has dropped from the low fifties to the upper thirties. Carville asserted that this marks the lowest approval rating for any president at a comparable time in office.

The administration's recent actions have intensified scrutiny in the public conversation. The setting of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, has raised concerns as it moves to implement significant cuts to federal spending. This has resulted in thousands of federal employees being dismissed while DOGE evaluates agencies and their access to sensitive information.
Carville argued that the political ramifications of these developments will be substantial. He projected that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will struggle to pass a budget relying solely on Republican votes and will ultimately have to engage with House Democrats:
"I think the House Democrats — and this is gonna shock a lot of people — I think they know exactly what they're doing, and they know exactly what's gonna happen. And Mike Johnson's gonna have no other choice. He's gonna have to go, and when he does, that's surrender"
Carville maintained that Democrats should take a passive approach, allowing the administration's decline to continue without interference. He described the situation as "easy pickings" for the opposition, believing that the downward trend in public perception will only accelerate.
It's not the first time Carville has made similar comments. He visited Fox News's "Hannity" on Thursday, where he suggested that a political collapse was already in progress:
"Let's see when they put the Medicaid budget, when they put the tax — the $4.5 billion [or] trillion of tax cuts to wealthy people," he said. "Just let the ball come to you. We don't need to be aggressive now"
President Trump said on Friday on Truth Social, saying that Democrats "are going crazy, and just don't know what to do," claiming that he has "the best polling numbers" he's ever had.
