A debate has broken out between two local businesses in Drumnadrochit Scotland over the existence of the Loch Ness monster or Nessie, as it is more affectionately known.
George Edward runs Loch Ness cruises and he has been criticizing his local chamber of commerce for treating the Loch Ness monster as nothing more than a myth. In response, Tony Harmsworth the former head of the Loch Ness Centre accusing Edwards of selling his cruise guests phony photos of the Loch Ness monster claiming they are real.

According to the Telegraph the row is threatening to split the business community in half. Tourists have been flocking to Scotland for the last 80-years in a hope of getting a glimpse of the elusive sea creature, the Loch Ness monster.
The debate over the way the Loch Ness monster is being portrayed to tourists has become so heated members of the local chamber of commerce have, including Harmsworth begun to resign.
"Today's tourists are more discerning," Harmsworth said in a letter aimed at Edwards. "They want to understand the culture, legend and natural history of the place they visit."
Edwards responded with a letter of his own criticizing the way the chamber of commerce has turned the myth of the Loch Ness monster into a scientific inquiry.

"At the end of the day there is no such thing as an expert on loch Ness. Just people with an opinion," Edwards wrote. "Most of the people I talk to on my boat know that it's just a bit of fun."
"What brings people to Loch Ness?" Edwards asked. "My little stories about Nessie or the so called experts going on about big waves and fish. They should stop taking themselves so seriously."
The first photograph of the Loch Ness monster was taken in 1934, largely dismissed as a hoax it shows a long necked, dinosaur looking creature gliding through the waters of the Loch.

Like all mythical creatures there are those who believe the Loch Ness monster is real and others who say Nessie is a tourist trap used to empty the pockets of unsuspecting visitors with smoke and mirrors.
The way big foot has a cult of followers in the US, Nessie does in Scotland. There are teams of Loch Ness monster hunters constantly searching the dark waters of Scotland to see what kind of secrets lurk below the surface.
