The American Singer - Songwriter Lisa Marie Presley, 54, died Thursday, hours after being hospitalized following an apparent cardiac arrest. Lisa was the only child of rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley. After her parents’ divorce in 1973, Lisa was raised primarily by her mother.
"It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us." "She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known," Priscilla Presley said.
After Lisa's staff discovered her unresponsive at her Calabasas home, she was sent to the hospital. Danny Keough, her ex-husband, was present and gave her CPR until paramedics arrived and took over, reports TMZ.
Lisa’s debut studio album, "To Whom It May Concern," which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 albums list and received a gold certification that summer, served as the catalyst for her musical career. She co-wrote every melody and nearly all of the album's lyrics.
She released "Now What" in 2005 and "Storm & Grace" in 2012 as follow-ups. Her albums have sold well despite receiving a variety of reviews, and she has received praise for her composition.
Lisa has dabbled in acting in addition to her music career, making appearances in a number of films and television programs like "The Opposite of Sex" and "CSI: Miami." She has also been active in a number of charity initiatives, such as a drive to increase public awareness of child sex abuse.
Lisa had a number of prominent marriages. She married Michael Jackson in 1994, shocking everyone less than a month after divorcing Danny Keough, who was her first husband. After less than two years of marriage, Michael Jackson and Lisa got divorced. In 2002, she got married to Nicolas Cage, although they were only together for a few months before he filed for divorce. She married her guitar player Michael Lockwood with whom she had 2 children and later on filed for divorce in 2016.
Two days earlier, Lisa joined her 77-year-old mother at the 80th Annual Golden Globes in celebration to watch Austin Butler win for his performance as the King of Rock n' Roll in the Baz Luhrmann film "Elvis."
Lisa is survived by daughters Riley, 33, Finley and Harper, both 14. In 2020, Lisa’s son Benjamin Keough died by suicide at the age of 27.
For National Grief Awareness Day in September, Presley penned an essay in which she discussed the death of her son in detail:
“My and my three daughters’ lives as we knew it were completely detonated and destroyed by his death. We live in this every. Single. Day,” she wrote. “Grief is something you will have to carry with you for the rest of your life, in spite of what certain people or our culture wants us to believe. You do not ‘get over it,’ you do not ‘move on,’ period.”
On Thursday, as soon as word of Lisa Marie's death broke, celebrities flocked to social media to express their condolences.
Shirley Ann Manson tweeted, “Utterly devastated to learn of the hideously premature death of a surprisingly sweet fierce, generous, talented and painfully vulnerable Lisa Marie Presley,” she wrote. “I will treasure you always in my heart girl. Thank you for your kindness. May you now be granted peace. Sx.”
“Oh no. This is such horrible news. The entire world is sending love and prayers to Priscilla and Lisa Marie's children right now. May it give you strength [sic]," Diane Warren tweeted.
At the time of this publication, no information concerning Lisa's funeral has been made available to the general public.
