Lin-Manuel Miranda, winner of awards such as Tony, Emmy, Grammy, Pulitzer, Oliver and McArthur, among other, and creator of the successful Broadway musical “Hamilton,” will be recognized in his parents’ native Puerto Rico with a star in the country’s Walk Of Fame. The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 27 at 4:30pm.
Santiago Villar, president of the Board and founder of Puerto Rico Walk of Fame Inc., invites the people to witness the ceremony of the unveiling of the star of this great talent of theater, film and music, who now embarks on new projects including the sequel to the movie "Mary Poppins."
"For us it is great news that we can count with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s presence on the Walk of Fame, an international artist who has filled Puerto Rico with pride through his success with the play 'Hamilton.' For me it is an honor and a great joy that he has accepted our invitation to be present at the unveiling of his star," said Villar.
An actor, composer and writer, Miranda began resonating in the musical theater world when he wrote the music and lyrics for the hit show “In The Heights,” which premiered on Broadway in March, 2008 at the Richard Rodgers theater. The show had a successful run of 1,184 performances.
Lin-Manuel’s work in this production was recognized throughout, with this musical winning “Best Musical” at the 2008 Tony Awards and later going on to win a Grammy for best musical theater album in 2009. His work as “Usnavi” also earned him a nomination for the Tonys as Best Male Lead.
Miranda was born and raised in New York City from Puerto Rican parents. On Saturday, July 9, he finished a successful run on Broadway as Alexander Hamilton, whose life is documented in the Tony Award-winning musical “Hamilton,” to the rhythms of rap, hip hop, R&B, and pop. He’s currently writing the music for Disney’s new animated picture “Moana,” and just released the song “Love Make the World Go Round,” recorded with Jennifer Lopez and benefiting the victims of the Orlando shooting.
