"Spring Breakers" has been making headlines for its racy scenes portrayed by former Disney darlings -- namely Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens. But as it turns out, the mastermind behind the story of four college girls who rob a bank to be able to go on spring break has a delinquent past himself.

On his Monday edition of the "Late Show," David Letterman revealed to his guest, James Franco, that Harmony Korine, "Spring Breakers" mastermind, was banned from the show in 1999 after Letterman found him rummaging through Meryl Streep's purse. Franco, who stars is "Spring Breakers" and considers Harmony an "artist," was shocked.

"The legend is that he pushed Meryl Streep backstage," said Franco. "I mean, if you push Meryl Streep backstage you get kicked off."

However, Letterman's version is slightly different.

"I went upstairs to greet Meryl Streep and say welcome to the show, and I looked around, and she was not there, and I found your friend Harmony going through her purse. True story."

That's when Letterman told him to put her things back in her bag and get out of the set.

Franco suggested that they settle their differences, since Korine is apparently a much different person now, and that Letterman should invite him back on the show.

"He's a great person to work with, but I think he had a period when he was going a little off the rails ... So maybe he was on something that night."
