Leonardo DiCaprio will be starring in a new thriller directed by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñarritu for New Regency. According to Deadline Hollywood, "The Revenant" is set to start filming in September for a fall 2015 release. The script was co-written by González Iñarritu and Mark L. Smith. The film will be produced by Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, Keith Redmon and David Kanter with Gonzalez Iñárritu, Milchan and James Skotchdopole also producing.
"The Revenant" is adapted from the novel by the same name by Michael Punke about a fur trapper, Hugh Glass, searching for gold who is wounded by a bear. When the men looking after him rob him and leave him for dead, he manages to walk over 300 miles through the desert to survive and exact his revenge on those who betrayed him. Sean Penn had apparently been attached to the project too - he has since pulledo out of the film.
Alejandro González Iñarritu's latest film "Birdman" is set to be released in October. The film tells the story of Riggan Thomso (Michael Keaton) an actor who portrayed the iconic hero superhero Birdman but, after falling away from the spotlight, tries to recapture his glory in a Broadway show. Emmanuel Lubezki was in charge of cinematography, while Nicolás Giacobone and Amando Bo worked on the scirpt. Naomi Watts, Emma Stone, Edward Norton and Zach Galifianakis are also part of the cast.
