Veneno LaFerrari
Lamborghini Veneno versus Ferrari LaFerrari iMotor Times

While Switzerland is a neutral country, the 2013 Geneva Motor Show has become ground zero for supercar supremacy. In a matter of months, McLaren has unveiled the production version of its P1 supercar, Koenigsegg bowed its special Hundra Agera S to mark its 100th vehicle, Ferrari revealed its LaFerrari Enzo successor, and Lamborghini shook the show with its stunning $4 million Veneno.

A rather significant debut, the small town of Modena, Italy, is known as the "capital of engines" and is the home of the modern day supercar. In fact, Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Pagani are all just minutes away from the legendary municipality that's famous for its balsamic vinegar.

A competition that has extended for decades, Modena locals are as divided between the "Prancing Horse" and the "Raging Bull" as New Yorkers are split between the Yankees and the Mets. Will the Ferrari LaFerrari and Lamborghini Veneno settle matters once and for all? Fat chance.

The new LaFerrari supercar is the very first production supercar from Ferrari to feature a HY-KERS hybrid drivetrain. Its 789 hp mid-mounted 6.3 liter V12 engine and 160 hp electric motor combines to make a total of 949 hp and 663 lb.-ft. of torque. With power comparable to the eruption at Mt. Etna, LaFerrari is capable of rocketing from 0-to-60 mph in less than 3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 205 mph.

As powerful as it is technical, the new Ferrari supercar boasts a hand laminated carbon fiber monocoque chassis that utilizes four different types of carbon fiber. Weighing just 2,820 lbs., the LaFerrari is 27 percent stiffer than the legendary Ferrari Enzo.

Despite Lamborghini's reputation for offering some of the most intimidating supercars on the planet, purists claim that no modern Lamborghini could match the visual impact of the iconic Countach supercar. A rare event in Italian automotive development, it seems as if the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory has been listening to its fans - the Veneno possesses what is arguably the most outrageous surface treatment ever seen. Period.

Featuring a radical LMP1 prototype-inspired design, the Lamborghini Veneno is an all-carbon fiber supercar based on the bones of the highly acclaimed Lamborghini Aventador.

The Veneno is fitted with an utterly savage 6.5 liter V12, sending 740 hp to the wheels via a seven-speed ISR robotized manual gearbox. The Lamborghini Veneno will accelerate from 0-to-60 mph in less than 3 seconds before accelerating to a top speed of 220 mph - 15 mph faster than LaFerrari.

However, Ferrari-beating performance figures come at a price. The Lamborghini Veneno will start at £3.1 million, or $4.65 million. Comparatively, the LaFerrari is almost a bargain at €1.2 million, or $1.6 million, less than half the cost of the special Lambo.

In total, Ferrari expects to produce just 499 examples of its new halo supercar. As for Lamborghini, the factory plans to end production of the Veneno after just three.

Despite the Lamborghini's awesome power, Ferrari's history still proves that the Prancing Horse still has much better prowess on the track. Which one do you prefer? Voice your vote in the comment section below!
