Lamar Odom continues to make headlines shortly after the NBA All-Star went missing for over 3 days. With his wife Khloe Kardashian and close friends unable to get in touch with the former Los Angeles Lakers star, many feared that Odom was abusing drugs, something that obviously did not sit well with those closest to him. The 33-year-old and his reality television-star wife have been rumored to be experiencing marriage problems and the fact that Odom has been abusing drugs has put a serious amount of pressure on Khloe, according to multiple sources.
"It's a really hard time for Khloe because she really loves Lamar," an unnamed source told the New York Daily News recently. "She's kept this secret for almost two years trying to save Lamar and their marriage. Lamar genuinely doesn't think he has a problem, it's all work hard then party hard with him until it goes off the rails. They really do love each other. But she really feels that this problem is out of control, and she's hurt that he won't get help."
According to US Magazine, Lamar Odom does in fact have a drug problem despite the notion that the two-time NBA Champion doesn't appear willing to recognize it.
"The addiction had taken over their marriage," a friend of the family told the publication. "The problem is cocaine. He would be high for three or four days at time. I feel so bad for [Khloe] because she really does love him. She says the things he does are because of drugs, and she just wants him to get help."
While Odom's loved ones continue to push him to get the help he apparently needs, the former University of Rhode Island standout will also need to start focusing on his career - or lack thereof - because there is no guarantee the forward will once again land a position on the hardwoods of the National Basketball Association.
"It's almost Labor Day weekend and players are starting to return to their teams, and Lamar doesn't have a team," an NBA insider who has a personal relationship with Odom said to People. "He's gone from making $8.5 million last year to being out of work at this point. There's an old saying in the NBA: Are you more valuable than your problems? And it's just reached the point with Lamar where he is not more valuable than his problems."
"Up until about two years ago, Lamar Odom was averaging about 15 points and eight rebounds a game and you know what? You deal with his off-court problems for that," the insider continued. "When Lamar Odom averages four points a game, he's not worth the problems."
A former first round pick, Lamar Odom has averaged over 13 points and 8 rebounds per game since breaking into the league with the Los Angeles Clippers in 1999.
