The Lakers up and down season continued after a shocking loss at the buzzer to a surprising Pacers team. Just when the Lakers thought they might have been turning a corner, the Pacers climbed back from down 17 with 10 minutes to go to win.
The Lakers are 5-2 in their last seven, but a closer examination of those games leaves little to be excited about. Three of those wins are over the Spurs, who have lost eight games in a row. One of their wins came over the Pistons, who are 5-17. Winning those games count the same as any other win, but the quality of those wins isn’t great.
The December schedule for the Lakers is tough. Just 3 of their games will be against teams that are under .500. The month of December will be a good test for the Lakers and we will get a much clearer view if their improved play of late is legitimate or just a product of a weak part of their schedule.
On the bright side, Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis are playing fantastic basketball. Westbrook seems to have adjusted to his bench role and Davis is putting up numbers that resemble some of the best seasons in the league. LeBron James is still effective and Coach Darvin Ham is figuring out the rest of the rotation. We will learn a lot about the Lakers in the upcoming weeks.
