As we all witnessed last week, housewife, Adriana Rodríguez became Lady Chiles after recording her domestic employee, while she and her husband searched her bag and confronted her. The housewife’s reasoning behind this was that Nieves, her employee, had lied about eating not one, but two ‘Chiles en Nogada.’ She claims she offered one of the chiles to her employee and was going to give the second one to a friend. “It is impossible for someone to eat two whole chiles on their own,” she kept saying in the video. More than an apology, Rodríguez responded to all the criticism by explaining the circumstances further.
“She gets well treated in this house, gets paid good money every week, gets vacation days and a bonus for Christmas,” added the housewife. “She doesn’t work extra hours, she just comes to work, eats breakfast and lunch like everyone in my family: cereal, salads, fruit, pasta, etc,” and continued by saying, “the other misconception is that Nieve’s son is a little kid when in reality he’s a 20-year-old, owns a car and has a job.” The housewife also mentioned her employee “was not stealing because she was hungry… it’s not like she was stealing basic foods.”
In addition, the housewife was outraged by the fact that people started bringing up her late daughter in their social media attacks. Rodríguez’ daughter passed away from cancer in 2003.
Hilda Téllez, director of Conapred (and organization for discrimination prevention,) said Adriana Rodríguez should not only apologize publicly but compensate this to her employee one way or another. Besides the miscommunications there might have been with the "chile argument," we still think that recording the employee and then posting it on her social media was very far from being a solution. That’s the humiliating part in all of this.
