The second installment of the popular Japanese sports anime series by Tadatoshi Fujimaki will be available on Netflix on May 15, 2021. “Kuroko’s Basketball” debuted on the streaming platform on Jan. 15, so, fans can expect that the third season will hit the channel later this fall or autumn.

The anime follows the story of Tetsuya Kuroko, the phantom player and 6th member of “The Generation of Miracles,” who joins the Seirin High School Basketball team. Together with Taiga Kagami, who spent playing basketball in the U.S., aims to bring their team to the Winter Cup.

The two will have to dominate the court and against Kuroko’s former teammates who went to different high schools: Ryota Kise of Kaijo High, Shintaro Midorima of Shutoku High, Daiki Aomine of Too Academy, Atsushi Murasakibara of Yosen High, and, Seijuro Akashi of Rakuzan High.

“Kuroko's Basketball” premiered in Crunchyroll in 2012, lasting until 2015. It streamed with three seasons and 75 episodes. In 2017, a spin-off titled “Kuroko's Basketball The Movie: Last Game” was released in theatres detailing a match between the U.S. team, Jabberwock, and Vorpal Swords, a team of five Generation of Miracles members with Kuroko and Kagami.

“Kuroko's Basketball” is praised and hailed as one of the greatest sports anime. It was the third best-selling manga series in 2013. In 2020, the series saw over 31 million copies printed worldwide.

The anime series is often compared to Slam Dunk, but, “Kuroko's Basketball” is a growing icon on its own. The series’ popularity and power-analytical infusion of the game became a global pop culture following.

Fans demanded more shows from “Kuroko's Basketball” but, it’s highly unlikely to say that there will be more series in the future. There might be room for spin-offs and film adaptations; nonetheless, the audience will have to watch three complete seasons of the anime series this year.
