While the world is mourning the loss of one of the biggest NBA stars of all time, a rather heart-warming report surfaced, reminiscing how his teenage sweetheart turned wife Vanessa and daughters were his loves. But, a deeper dive into Kobe and Vanessa’s fairytale makes one learn that it was after all a bumpy road. In 2003, The Bryants’ paradise suffered a serious jolt—Kobe confessed to adultery during a press conference on July 18, 2003, in Los Angeles.
“Disgusted at myself for making (the) mistake of adultery,” said Kobe, while his wife was by his side at a news conference in 2003. While he confessed to carrying on behind his wife’s back, Kobe vehemently denied the rape allegations of the 19-year-old hotel worker in Colorado and insisted that it was consensual.
“I love my wife with all my heart. She's my backbone,” he added. Despite things that have turned in Kobe’s favor, with the sexual assault charges being dropped the very next year, it is believed that the aftermath of this tumultuous reveal was wide and far-reaching. So much so, Kobe blamed himself for Vanessa’s miscarriage.
Speaking about the same, Kobe Bryant revealed during a 2015 Showtime documentary that his mistake cost them their unborn child. “The reality is it happened because of me,” he said. “That's something I have to deal with,” he added. But tough times didn’t last long for the Bryant’s who welcomed their daughter Gianna in 2006.
Soon after, another roadblock awaited. And this time around, while the reasons weren’t divulged as yet, The couple hit a rough patch again in 2011 which led to Vanessa Bryant filing for divorce citing
“irreconcilable differences.” By 2013, they were back together.
"We are pleased to announce that we have reconciled,” said Vanessa Bryant said on social media, while addressing speculations of the former couple getting back together. “Our divorce action will be dismissed. We are looking forward to our future together,” she added.
Despite a few occasional hiccups, Kobe was a doting dad and a loving husband for the most part. He often shared a peek into his parenting style, whenever he could spend quality time with his “princesses.” It is believed that Kobe always felt his second daughter Gianna would carry forward his legacy.
