Following the success of “The Kissing Booth,” the follow-up film to the highly popular Netflix rom-com is finally in the works. Thanks to its dreamy male lead, cute narrative, truthful storytelling and coveted love aspect, the film was quick to become everyone’s obsession and even turned out to be one of the most re-watched Netflix films of 2018. Here are details about “The Kissing Booth 2” you shouldn’t miss.
1. It will see the return of the original cast
Original cast members Joey King, Joel Courtney and Jacob Elordi will return for the sequel to reprise their roles as naïve high schooler Elle, Elle’s best friend Lee and Elle’s love interest Noah, respectively. It is not yet clear if Molly Ringwald will return as Noah and Lee’s mother.
2. There is no announcement yet as to what the sequel will be all about, but there are speculations
Since the first film ended with Elle and Noah together — but apart — there are speculations that the second film will revolve around Elle’s senior year as she deals with being away from the love of her life. Some also speculate that the sequel might leap ahead into Elle’s college experience in Harvard or a nearby college or somewhere in between, like a summer on the beach where she will reunite with Noah a year after.
3. Director Vince Marcello is back to helm the project
Behind the camera, Vince Marcello will be back to direct and co-write the sequel with Jay Arnold. Michele Weisler, who worked on the first film, will also be back to produce. She will work with two new producers, Andrew Cole-Bulgin and Edward Glauser.
4. The first trailer won’t be released anytime soon
The trailer for the first “The Kissing Booth” film was released 10 days before the film hit Netflix. If the sequel is set for release in 2020, then most likely Netflix won’t drop the trailer for the new film until late 2019 or early 2020.
5. It will arrive in 2020 on Netflix
“The Kissing Booth 2” is currently in pre-production, and filming won’t be underway until later this year. The sequel does not have a specific release date yet, but Netflix has confirmed that it will arrive in 2020.
