Square Enix director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed in a interview with Engadget that fans can expect "far bigger" worlds in the next chapter of "Kingdom Hearts," and even with the size increase load times have seen a "huge decrease."
“While the world may not be comparable to massively open-world titles, it’s far bigger than previous Kingdom Hearts titles,” he said. “In previous games, you’d run to the end of an area and it would go dark before transitioning to the next stage — now it’s become seamless.”
Nomura also revealed real-time actions will affect the landscape around you. For example using a tornado spell "will swirl the blades of grass surrounding it." Furthermore, according to VG247 battle controls will be similar to "Kingdom Hearts," but the team is currently considering ways to incorporate Sony's DualShock 4 touchpanel.
The production team also has quite a few ideas on how to extend "Kingdom Hearts III's" longevity with the addition of an online component. Nomura revealed the online feature is part of his "wish list," but he doesn't want the functionality to be "tacked on." Plus the team has yet to reach a point in development where it can test any ideas pertaining to online.
Meanwhile, Square Enix showed audiences a new gameplay trailer while presenting at E3 2015. The title is currently being developed for next-gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One and has yet to receive a release date.
