This week has been unfathomably eventful for the Kardashians. Three days ago, Kanye West raised eyebrows after delivering a lengthy monologue at a Charleston campaign -- as his first presidential run. A teary-eyed Kanye made a host of sweeping statements all through his speech, including how he almost killed their daughter North.
Fast forward to Wednesday, and netizens were given a peek into West’s struggle with bipolar disorder through an impassioned IG story posted by wife Kim Kardashian West.
“He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bipolar disorder,” wrote Kardashian West, opening up about Kanye’s mental health. The story came as a big reveal because Kardashian West has been extremely guarded about her husband’s condition, as the reality star is reportedly very protective of Kanye and their children’s “right to privacy when it comes to his health.”
“Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand,” she wrote, adding, “Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behaviour know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor,” she wrote. “People who are unaware or far removed from this experience can be judgmental and not understand that the individual themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.”
Kanye, who recently announced his interest to run for the presidency, has stated in the past that those who truly love him, have come to terms with the fact that “his words sometimes do not align with his intentions.”
Kardashian West reiterated her faith in Kanye’s caliber and mentioned how “many of his big dreams have come true”. “We as a society talk about giving grace to the issue of mental health as a whole, however, we should also give it to the individuals who are living with it in time when they need it the most,” she elucidated, in the story.
While nobody really knows what egged Kanye’s wife on, to put forth a tell-all of sorts, the message was loud and clear: She urged fans and the media to allow them the compassion and empathy that is needed in a bid to wade through unscathed, during the time.
