"The Killing" has been picked up for Season 4 by Netflix with an order of 6 episodes. The AMC show was resurrected by the streaming service after the original network canceled the show at the end of Season 3. This was the second time the cable channel axed the show as it was also canceled after the freshman season only to be revived again. Entertainment Weekly reports that this will definitely be the final season of the series and stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman are on board to reprise their roles as well as showrunner Veena Sud.
“The rich, serialized storytelling in The Killing thrives on Netflix, and we believe that it is only fitting to give Sarah Linden (Enos) and Stephen Holder (Kinnaman) a proper send off,” Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix told the magazine. “We are looking forward to offering fans — both existing and new — a series that we know is perfectly suited for on-demand viewing.” The online service has been pushing original content inr ecent years and is known to resurrect shows like Season 4 of cult favorite "Arrested Development." All of the original cast members returned to reprise their hilarious roles in this bonus season that might be extended for an additional season. Netflix has also found critical acclaim with original series like "Orange Is The New Black" and "House of Cards."
Marvel and Netflix recently announced four new original series coming in 2014 based around various Marvel superheroes, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Like Cage. The two companies said in a joint statement that "the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell's Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel's 'The Defenders' mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters."
