The Dallas Mavericks came into the season with some optimism after reaching the Western Conference Finals last season. Still, a questionable offseason that saw them lose their second-best player Jalen Brunson and swing a deal for Christian Wood has the Mavericks season in question.
The load on Luka Doncic’s shoulder is immense. The Mavs have 9 wins but have yet to win a single game in which Doncic has scored fewer than 30 points. His play has been at an MVP level all season long, but there is little on the roster in terms of another creator.
The Mavs signed Kemba Walker on Monday in the hopes that he can add a bit of a scoring punch to the roster. Walker was waived by the Pistons at the start of the season and had struggled in his last stint in New York. Banking on him to make a significant difference shows the flaws in the Mavs roster.
Doncic is at the center of everything the Mavs do on offense. Their heliocentric offense has become necessary to give them a shot to win every night. There’s no question he is more than capable of shouldering that load and being one of the best players in the league while doing it, but there is a question as to what the ceiling of this roster is at the moment.
