Katy Perry Compares Her Relationship With Orlando Bloom And Russell Brand

Aside from her outstanding musical and performing prowess, Katy Perry is also known for her dating life. Now she’s back in the limelight with her recent engagement to English actor Orlando Bloom. Previously, the “Never Really Over” singer was married to English comedian and actor Russell Brand.

When it comes to their timing and approach toward love, it seems that Bloom and Brand are entirely different, especially with regard to Perry’s view on her relationship with them. With Perry’s engagement to Bloom announced earlier this year in February, the pop singer talks about relationships and exes.

Perry’s marriage with Brand was short-lived and did not end well. According to an interview in 2013, Perry had not heard from her ex-husband ever since he sent her a text message asking for a divorce in 2011. About the break-up, Perry revealed how Brand simply could not handle a strong woman in the relationship despite how he spoke of looking for an equal.

“At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal,” she said. “But then they get that equal, and they’re like, ‘I can’t handle the equalness.’ He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour.”

It is in contrast to this that Perry says that she has become more informed on relationships and how to handle them — sharing how she wishes to “do the work” before getting married to Bloom. In an interview last week with Australian station KIIS 1065’s Kyle & Jackie O, the American singer-songwriter explained how different her relationship with Brand was compared to that with Bloom.

“It’s important for us to do the work before we take this really big next step,” she said. “Because we were both married before, and it’s not the same in your 30s.”

According to the pop-star, she and her fiancé are “taking things one step at a time.” Although they are engaged, they are carefully planning their wedding, and making sure their commitment to each other remains stable. “[We’re] really doing the hard work and laying a beautiful foundation before we start to build a massive house ... figuratively, emotionally, you know,” she said.
