Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom welcomed their bundle of joy to the world in a heart-warming post via UNICEF on Wednesday. Followers got a peek of their new-born after the couple shared a black and white image of their little girl grasping her daddy's finger while Perry gently held the newborn's wrist. The stars have named her Daisy Dove Bloom.
Perry and Bloom are exhilarated to be treading on a new path and expressed their gratitude to the hospital staff for taking them through it all hassle-free amid challenging times like these.
“But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was,” said the duo in the post. “Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or new-born dies, mostly from preventable causes.
Since COVID-19 many more new-born lives are at risk because of the increased lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases. As parents to a new-born, this breaks our hearts, as we empathize with struggling parents now more than ever,” they added, while hoping that every expecting mother gets the medical care she deserves.
The couple, who’s Goodwill Ambassadors of UNICEF, urged fans to contribute to the fund-raising platform and show their “support for a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child.”
Perry and Bloom were first romantically linked in 2016 and were officially engaged in 2019. Bloom shares a child -- 9-year-old Flynn -- with ex-partner Miranda Kerr. Perry has always maintained that she was eagerly looking forward to motherhood, but her pregnancy was the "longest secret that she had to keep." Perry announced her pregnancy through an Instagram Live Session soon after her album premiered YouTube.
Perry has been vocal about a host of issues in the recent past, including her battle with mental illnesses. The “Smile” songstress recently stated that she is grateful to be living her best life after coming out of a rather dark phase. She’s a lot accepting of her flaws and shortcomings and is looking forward to dropping meaningful numbers in the future.
