Kate Middleton and Prince William showed off their bartending skills at the Empire Music Hall in Belfast on Wednesday. But who was the better barback? Photos from that night suggest it’s the royal mom of three, Duchess Kate.
The royal couple got behind the bar on Wednesday night during an informal party in Belfast, another royal engagement they were scheduled to attend during their short trip to England. Donning her shimmering long dress and suede pumps, Kate arrived at the venue with the Duke of Cambridge. Welcoming the royal couple were crowds cheering outside the hall.
Lord Lieutenant of Belfast Fionnuala Jay-O’Boyle immediately greeted Kate and Prince William when they got inside the venue. After chatting with popular British athlete Dame Mary Peters, the two caught everyone’s attention when Kate started pouring a pint of beer at the bar, with Prince William fondly watching her. After his wife, Prince William took his turn as bartender.
Video of the duchess pulling the perfect pint of popular Irish staple Harp Lager spread like wildfire across the web. Kensington Palace posted the video online with the caption, “Getting the party started at @BelfastEmpire, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are celebrating young people who are making a real difference in Northern Ireland.”
The celebration that night capped off a busy day of sports events for the royal couple. Earlier that day, Kate and Prince William visited the National Football Stadium, where Kate played soccer with young athletes while wearing a fashionably sporty gear. After playing soccer, the couple headed to Roscor Youth Village, where they took part in a canoe race and archery with some youth at the social justice charity Extern’s activity center.
Their two-day trip to Ireland was a surprise trip. While Kensington Palace usually announces details of royal visits via social media ahead of time, the Palace decided to keep it a secret on this occasion, reportedly due to security reasons.
