US Vice President Kamala Harris, who is reportedly frustrated with the ongoing mansion renovations, has been silent regarding the border crisis, and not many are pleased with it.
The Vice President has been given the responsibility to lead in response to southern border challenges, but according to the Office of the Vice President, Harris had no events this past weekend and there is no mention of border-related activity, reported Fox News.
When asked by a reporter last week if she’d be heading south soon, Harris replied with what some called a cackle, "Not today."
Nevertheless, she had a busy weekend. Giving an update to her Twitter followers, she shared, "Met some of our country’s future leaders in West Haven, Connecticut."
But her silence on the border issue made many furious.
One tweeted, "Go down to the border. Human trafficking, drug cartels, dead immigrants. Shame on you. But you won by voter fraud and everybody knows it."
Another wrote, "She is worried about her White House renovations over the Border Crisis! So extremely ignorant!!!"
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has asked for government volunteers to help manage the migrant problem. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has sent memos to agency heads seeking "volunteer deployments" for 120 days.
"We are actively working to screen, process and deploy these volunteers while continuing our recruitment efforts and exploration of other avenues to bolster staff resources at the border," an OPM spokesperson said.
As for Harris, she along with her husband, Georgetown Law professor Douglas Emhoff, is still, living out of suitcases, unable to move into the private residence reserved for the vice president because it's still undergoing renovations, reported CNN.
One administration official said the reason behind the delay in renovation of the mansion, which is two-and-a-half miles from the White House, is unclear.
"She is getting frustrated," said another administration official.
In another news, Harris greeted people on the occasion of Holi, which is widely celebrated in India. "Happy Holi! Holi is best known for vibrant colors that are tossed at friends and loved ones. Full of joy, Holi is all about positivity, setting aside our differences, and coming together. A message that's been embodied by communities across the world during these tough times," she tweeted.
