Univision premiered "Su Nombre Era Dolores, La Jenn Que Yo Conocí" this month to much success and now Telemundo is about to start production on their own Jenni Rivera bio-series called "Mariposa De Barrio." The difference between both of these series is that the former is an unauthorized take on the life of "La Diva De La Banda" and the latter has the blessing of all the Rivera family.
Alicia Machado was rumored to play Jenni on the Telemundo version, but the news was debunked by the late singer's youngest son. "Alicia Machado has NOT been casted as my mother for the official series. Don't believe everything you read guys," Johnny Lopez wrote on Twitter.
Johnny also doesn't want anyone asking him about the Univision series as he doesn't care to watch it. "I don't mean to be rude, but can everyone please stop asking me about the Univision novela," he wrote. "I don't want to hear about it and I don't care for it. That mediocrity doesn't deserve to carry my mother's name."
"Mariposa De Barrio" has not officially announced who will play the late singer, nor have they started production. They have casted Rivera's sister, Rosie. In a recent interview on "Al Rojo Vivo" she presented the actress that would portray her on the small screen. It was announced that Stephanie Arcila would be playing Rosie and would be filming a scene that talks about her abuse by one of her sister's husbands. Rivera also revealed that seeing that moment reenacted was theraputic for her and helped her heal.
"I see the young girl and the abuser shows up and I say 'oh my God, someone save her'", she said. "I ended up crying, but it was also like theraphy for me. For many years I didn't love myself but seeing myself as a young girl and that scene, I said, 'I'm going to forgive myself.'"
