Real Madrid’s newest star, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, certainly isn’t soft spoken. On Wednesday, Chicharito weighed in on one of soccer’s biggest debates: Ronaldo or Messi?

“Cristiano is better without a doubt.” The Mexican striker said without hesitation. “You’d have to be mad not think that because he is the best. Messi is good, but he is behind… In the little time I have been here, I have seen why he is the best in the world.”

Chicharito was sent from Manchester United to Real Madrid on a yearlong loan last month and it’s no surprise that he is favoring his new teammate in this debate. Messi and Ronaldo have won the last six FIFA Balloon d’Or awards, which is internationally recognized as the standard for the World’s greatest player.

Currently, Ronaldo is the reigning Ballon winner, but Messi was hurt last season and is healthy this year.

“It is not only what he does in games so well, but on a day-to-day basis. For me, Cristiano is the best. Messi is there too – after Cristiano there is the Argentine.”

Chicharito is clearly trying to win over his teammate in Madrid after Ronaldo was very outspoken to the media about the moves that his team made this offseason. Chicharito realizes there are doubts surrounding the decision to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Here the doubts are something you have to come to terms with. Madrid are the best club of the 20th century, according to FIFA, and still some people argue about it.

“I played at Chivas, the best team in Mexico. I played at Manchester United, the best team in England, and I will play with Real Madrid, the best team in the world. I can only see the glass half full.”

Despite ranking Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi presently, Chicharito did not refrain from discussing who he thought was the best soccer player of all time. It’s also Ronaldo, only not the one you think.

“My idol is Ronaldo Nazario de Lima, ‘The Phenomenon’,” he said.

Chicharito went on to say that he would love to continue to play for Real Madrid beyond this season, but because the transfer is just a loan and Manchester United still retain his rights after this year; his future will be in doubt.
