“Jane The Virgin" Season Three "is really about growing up as an overall theme,” creator Jennie Snyder Urman told Yahoo TV “There are a lot of big milestones that happen this year and a lot of youthful innocence shed.”
The season premiere will pick up right where it left off, with Jane (Gina Rodriguez) reeling after her new husband, Michael (Brett Dier), was shot.
According to TVLine as the hospitalized detective fights for his life in the present, flashbacks of a defining moment in his and Jane’s courtship add another level of poignancy to the “devastating” and “very emotional” season opener.
"We learn a lot about what happened with Jane and Michael after they had their first kiss,” said Urman, “We learn a lot of unexpected things about the beginning of their relationship as she’s trying to get through the trauma and find out if he’s going to live or die.”
“People will know at the end if he lives or dies, but it’s a pretty harrowing journey,” Urman teased.
Urman revealed another story arc in the interview, stating that Jane is to lose her virginity this season. Will they change the name of the show we wonder?
Urman said it might have a new twist. "We'll cross out 'the Virgin' and then we'll continue on. I think it will always say Jane the Virgin and then we'll just cross it off each time."
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gina Rodriguez said that she filmed a lot of heavy scenes this season that will really tug at the heartstrings,
“You see (Jane) in the lowest of lows. It’s very heavy.”
“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 will premiere tonight at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
The CW network's official website offers streaming of their shows a day after they air for free.
